If you are a freelancer web developer. You will need need other skills too so that you can showcase and market your skills. You will also need to learn the art of negotiation. So with same web programming skill a guy with good marketing/communication/management skills will be able to negotiate better rates.
I know full time freelancers making 2.5 lacs per month.

So you need to be a bit creative and patience; and learn how to market yourself before you think of earning significant revenue out of freelancing; but yes, in a long term it will beat your full time day job.
